We're debt free! Well, almost. We still owe on the house, but that is our only debt.

We started the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps in October 2005 with $39,289 in credit card debt. It took 42 months to pay it off - and it was the best thing we've ever done.

Right now our goal is to have 3 months basic living expenses (baby step #3). We also want to to pay off the house and retire! I need to SAVE and be FRUGAL.

Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps
We didn't learn about Dave Ramsey until after the kids were done with college, so we get to skip baby step #5.
[x]1. Build $1,000 EF
[x]2. Pay off debt
[ ]3. Build 3-6 months EF

My Ten Goals for June 2009

[x] Visit with our new financial advisor
[ ] List 10 items on Craig's List and/or eBay
[ ] Get two auto insurance quotes to compare to existing policy scheduled to renew July 7th
[x] Get lawn chairs for cook-out on the 7th (POSTPONED)
[x] Host cook-out for friends on the 7th
[x] Make Father's Day cards for dad and dad-in-law, and maybe hubby too
[ ] Stain all three decks (right side, back, and left side)
[ ] Plan menus for the entire month - IN PROGRESS
[ ] Start a compost bin
[ ] Avoid the icy cold beverages on sale at the registers when out shopping - TRYING REALLY HARD

I ordered a $5 Amazon.com gift card with

Swagbucks today. (I earn Swagbucks just by searching the internet!) This is my fourth gift card since March 2009. I should have it about 10 days.

Last week, I shortened my mini blinds and kept the slats. (They were 64" long and my windows were 48"). Today I recycled the slats into plant markers for my garden following this tutorial. Super easy - and best of all - free!

I also cooked up a huge pot of chicken lentil stew today. This will give us plenty of leftovers for lunches during the weeks ahead. (It freezes great.)

Welcome to SA! I've only earned one swagbucks gift card. I've fallen off the wagon as far as using their seach engine.

I've done the blind shortening before and also have extra slats sitting in my basement. I just might let the kids decorate a few for our garden!

GREAT job on the debt payoff!! You definitely did some hard work. I'm sure folks here would like to hear more about it.

I like the vege marker idea. I just planted the garden but didn't mark anything in the rows so I'd know what's what. (I just made a map in the house that shows what to expect in each row.) I may have to do this idea next year when I plan to start my seeds indoors.
