Electric Bill

May 29th, 2009 at 11:34 am

Don't you just love it when you open your electric bill and discover it's less than you budgeted for?

I'm very excited right now. I just opened my electric bill and it's only $116. I had budgeted $164 this month; so that means I'm adding $48 to my savings! It's like extra cash.

Now I'm trying to figure out what I did different this month to bring the cost down so much. It's got me thinking of all sorts of things I can do reduce this bill even more.

I keep my hot water heater turned off and only turn it on 20 minutes before I need it. I have a 3200 sq. foot house (with 3 refrigerators) and my electric bill was $77 last month.

I love hearing about those double digit electric bills. Mine has never been below $100. We have a propane hot water heater so that doesn't affect our electric. Our biggest "power hog" is our hot tub. It costs about $15/month to run, but we won't give it up. In the meantime, I keep turning lights off and saving wherever I can.
